Harambee Starlets forward Cynthia Shilwatso grabbed the only goal as Fountain Gate Princess beat giants Yanga Princess in their opening game of the Tanzania Women’s Premier League (SLWPL) season.
Shilwatso who arrived in Tanzania in the off-season after a stint with Spanish side EDF Logrono was to put her side in the lead in the 31st minute; a goal that proved to be the difference in the tie.
There were a lot of Kenyan players in the tie with the league having roped quite a number in the last transfer window. Lining up for Yanga was left back Wincate Kaari, who is having her second stint with the Tanzania giants. For Gates, the likes of keeper Monica Chebet, Myline Awuor, and Nelly Kachie were all part of the team.
The result came a day after midfielder Corazone Aquino missed a penalty as Simba Queens opened their title defence with a 2-1 loss to JKT Queens on Tuesday.
